Welcome to the Art of Keith Barrell NDD. ATC. (London)

New York Exhibition
Montserrat Gallery

The above successful exhibition has now finished. I would like to thank the Montserrat Gallery and the many visitors to the show for their interest in my work and all the positive comments that were made during the Champagne Reception evening.

This was our first time to NYC and the people of New York did themselves proud. We met some fantastic people, who I'm sure we will keep in touch with and some strange characters in our tour of the City - but we loved every minute of it.

Click to view a larger imageI am in the process of developing a new range of work that seeks to explore new concepts and processes of working. These culminate from my recent move from painting in Watercolour to working with Acrylics, based on the male form.

The fluid use of this water based medium in conjunction with heavily sculptured textural surfaces on 3-dimensional forms, has resulted in a new suite of work, entitled 'Warriors'.
The image (above) is one of a current suite of low relief sculptures entitled 'Warriors', which I am building whilst continuing with other processes that include drawing and painting.

Artist's Statement - "For the past few years I have continued to draw from the male figure and have produced watercolours, life-size ceramic sculptures and paperworks, by developing images that are derived from the Male Torso. I feel that my current work relates both to my initial training as a figurative sculptor and with my aesthetic understanding achieved from my professional roles as teacher, lecturer, art advisor and inspector of art education.

I have remained influenced by Oriental Decorative Arts, Ceramics and Metalware in particular, by creating sculptures that are based on architectural or abstracted natural forms. these are designed specifically for gardens. I have participated in successful group exhibitions over many years and have sold works to Local Authorities and private collectors."

Please feel free to explore this site at your leisure.
